Omega Auctions is back
After an absence of three years (you know, something with corona and a Brexit) Omega Auctions from England is back at the record fair. We are very happy with that, because Omega Auctions is one of the best auction houses in the world for music memorabilia and vinyl. Every year, about 500,000 records go under the hammer at Omega Auctions. In addition to LPs, 7” singles and 12” singles, they also sell acetate, demos, CDs and tapes. All types of music are covered, but the emphasis is mainly on rock & pop, indie, soul, dance, jazz, punk, psych, soul, Northern soul, folk, blues and reggae. The general Omega Vinyl auction takes place Saturday 12.00 hours.”Happy Birthday Hip Hop! Born in the Bronx!” by Johan Kugelberg (USA)
Author Johan Kugelberg returns to the Recordplanet record fair with an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia celebrating the 50th birthday of hip hop!
Centring around the photographer Joe Conzo who the New York Times called ”the man who shot hip hop’s baby pictures”, the exhibition is a cultural immersion in the earliest days of a culture born in the Bronx. Signed copies of Johan Kugelberg and Joe Conzo’s book ’Born in the Bronx - A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip Hop’ will be available in its recently released edition expanded from the original 2008 publication. The exhibit will be accompanied by a DJ set of rare hip hop and a talk on how Johan founded the largest hip hop history archive in the world at Cornell University New York.
Book presentation Any Colour You Like - The Dark Side Of The Moon On Vinyl
Any Colour You Like - The Dark Side Of The Moon On Vinyl is the result of a lifelong quest and gathers together the 700 currently known variations of Pink Floyd’s masterpiece on record. They are all there, from the first March 1973 UK edition with solid blue prism labels, to the most obscure pressings from Nicaragua and Mozambique and everything in between. Each country has its entry with all known releases - test pressings, promotional copies, stock copies and mispressings - clearly arranged in chronological order with all necessary specifications, and complemented by a thousand images of labels and packaging details. The book deliberately refrains from a valuation of the various pressings as nothing is more subjective and volatile than the value of records.
Author Stefano Tarquini, Mr Pinky as he is lovingly known, has spent a major part of his life collecting records by Pink Floyd. His eye for detail and knowledge of the band’s official output on vinyl since 1967 makes him a grateful source of information for fellow collectors and countless publications in Italy and all over the world. He is the founder of the Italian collectors club The Lunatics and has curated various online resources dedicated to the band including the Mr Pinky Discography. See:YoutubeThe Mocks
The Mocks is a young band from Nieuw-Vennep. Inspired by the 1960s mod movement, the band members dress in (vintage) tailored suits of the best quality. Their musical style is heavily influenced by beat music, such as the Who, the Kinks, the Small Faces and the Motions. Their live shows embody the raw energy of a bygone era, which is even more evident in the vintage guitars, amplifiers and microphones. Despite having their roots in music that is more than half a century old, the band’s songs sound original and refreshing in today’s era, where effects and autotune are almost unimaginable. Are you ready for the new beat sensation? The Covids
The Amsterdam based band THE COVIDS was created out of boredom during the first lockdown and after numerous cancellations they could finally play their first live concert during the fall of 2021. Since then the band has relentlessly played the Dutch club circuit and already made their mark in the UK and Germany. This coming spring they will do their first tours in the USA, Mexico, France and Spain. Needless to say: THE COVIDS are on a roll! After releasing their first single in 2022, they are ready to launch their debut album ’BUST TO BITS’ containing 11 energetic, raw and melodic tracks that are extremely contagious. The album’s title track is a good example of what the band is all about lyrically, namely trying to have fun in a day and age that can sometimes feel apocalyptic. Musically THE COVIDS take inspiration from such groups as Buzzcocks, The Damned and The Wipers. You can listen to the album here.Kathleen Willems

The Blue Mask will play live songs from Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground that afternoon.
Lou Reed is one of the most influential musicians of all time. As the founder and composer of The Velvet Underground, whose debut album consistently ranks No. 1 on critics greatest albums of all time lists, he was at the center of the New York underground of the 1960s. As a solo artist we know him from classics such as Perfect Day, Walk On The Wild Side, Vicious and Satellite of Love with themes such as relationships, love, drug abuse, paranoia and death. Lou’s cool, observing voice is central. Not always clean, but always honest. Named after the 1982 album of the same name, The Blue Mask pays tribute to Lou Reed, the man and his music. They play the hits and various songs of Velvet Underground with great pleasure - recognizable and professional, but at the same time challenging with the typical rough edges. As Lou himself said: ”You can’t beat two guitars, a bass and drums!” Sunday 23 April. www.thebluemask.nl
”Born in Mexico, Coco María grew up surrounded by the sound of music, rapidly developing not only a love for listening to the sounds of her childhood, but for sharing it too. Her taste for high vibration music led Coco to discover afro-latin rhythms from South and Central America, Brazil, the Caribbean, and beyond. Today, her selection is a mixture of joyful and obscure gems ranging from jazz to samba, latin-funk, cumbia, alongside an assortment of rarities from sunnier, far-off places. Coco María hosted the flagship morning show ”Breakfast Club Coco” on Gilles Peterson’s London-based online radio Worldwide FM. She can also be found showcasing her original sounds at festivals globally such as Worldwide Sète, Dekmantel, We out Here and more. In 2021, she stepped into the game of compilation curating with ”Club Coco” on the Swiss label Bongo Joe. This included a song of her own and her debut as a composer”.
