On Saturday November 11 and Sunday November 12, 2023, the Mega Record & CD Fair will take place in the Brabanthallen in ’s-Hertogenbosch. At this fair, which is being held for the 57th time, music lovers from all over the world come together to buy records, attend book presentations, see live performances and visit exhibitions. This edition of the fair will highlight 50 years of Disco Fever 1973 - 2023, an auction by Omega Auctions UK, performances & presentations by Charly Records with performances by P.P. Arnold, The Bollock Brothers and Dj Levanne plus more Meet & Greets.
The exposition ’50 Years of Disco Fever’ is curated by Patrick Lejeune and consists items from his own collection. Lejeune who is better known as Discopatrick is collecting since 1978. In collaboration with Patrick Vogt he published two books. The most recent book, Disco - An Encyclopaedic Guide to the Cover Art of Disco Records, was published in 2014 in collaboration with publisher SOULJAZZ in London and is the standard book on this subject. A few years earlier, in 2007 they released the book: The Bootleg Guide to Disco Acetates, Funk, Rap and Disco Medleys.
Disco arose in New York during the early seventies and conquered the world effortlessly. The musicians that played disco music originally, like Nicky Siano, Walter Gibbons, François Kevorkian, John Morales and Larry Levan, were the first big DJ’s and pioneers of mixing, remixing and creating edits. The movie Saturday Night Fever and Donna Summer’s hits (some of them produced by Giorgio Moroder) made disco popular with a broader public. Big record labels quickly noticed how successful disco was, which is why rock artists and bands such as David Bowie, Kiss and even The Rolling Stones released disco records. It was in 1973 that the first article about disco was written by Vince Aletti for Rolling Stone, so that’s why we call this expo 50 years of Disco Fever.
Even though disco slightly diminished at the start of the 80s, its influence on different music styles has always been enormous. For example, house, one of disco’s successors, often has very similar drum patterns and the first rap music emerged due to the use of disco records. Currently, disco is popular again - in a lot of recent hits, old disco tracks can be recognised when used as samples.
The exposition has been built up with the use of a timeline that leads you to the origins of disco in 1973, the start of the DJ-culture and the creation of the remix, the birth of the 12-inch and the debut of the synthesizer. In this exposition you can find, among others, the following items:

Patricia Ann Cole was born in LA, and grew up singing gospel with her family at the Full Gospel Baptist Church in Watts, L.A. She never dreamed of a professional singing career, but destiny had other plans for her. At the age of 17 a chance encounter took her to Ike and Tina Turner’s living room singing ’Dancing In The Streets’ On the spot they asked her to join ’The Ikettes’.
Arrived in swinging London in 1966, with Ike & Tina, at the height of the duo’s "River Deep Mountain High" success. Always in the right place at the right time, Pat was spotted by Mick Jagger who convinced Andrew Loog Oldham to sign her to his "Immediate" record label. The hits followed, ’The First Cut Is The Deepest’, Chip Taylor’s classic ’Angel Of The Morning’ and ’(If You Think You’re) Groovy’. After the Immediate label crashed she soon established herself as an in demand session singer - her credits include The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Rod Stewart, Barry Gibb, Eric Clapton, Small Faces, Humble Pie, Nick Drake, Roger Waters, Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller, The Primal Scream, The Manfred’s and the list goes on and on. In the 1970s and 80s she featured in musicals in the West End such as Starlight Express, released dance records and then in the 1990s she went on the road with Roger Waters for over a decade, and she has never stopped working.
P.P. Arnold, Saturday live at the stage in hall 7, 14.30 hours
In 2017 she celebrated her 50th Anniversary in the music industry with release of an album of long lost recordings, originally made for Robert Stigwood’s RSO label. ’The Turning Tide’ produced by Barry Gibb, Eric Clapton and Caleb Quay was a surprise success - received enthusiastically by the media and her loyal fans - leading to renewed interest in PP Arnold, and the release of a new studio album in 2019 - ’The New Adventures of PP Arnold’ - produced by Steve Cradock of Ocean Color Scene with a little help from Paul Weller. Pat went back on the road. Culminating in 2022 in her debut appearance at Glastonbury. Also in 2022 an autobiography, aptly named ’Soul Survivor’, was released, and launched Pat on a round of radio interviews. Record producer Patrick Mascall heard her talking on BBC Radio 4 and reached out to see if she would like to work on some new material with his writing partner Mark Taylor at Metrophonic Studios.
In the meantime, a new track ’Soul Survivor’ from the forthcoming album is released this September, to coincide with the paperback release of her autobiography of the same name. At this Autumn’s Boisdale Music Awards - PP ARNOLD was awarded BEST FEMALE VOCALIST 2023. She’s currently in the middle of some UK Dates will end with her headline show in London on the 25th October @ The Boisdale Canary Wharf. November 9th sees the Vinyl reissue of her Immediate Records release ’Kafunta’ via Charly Records with her other album for Immediate ’The First Lady of Immediate’ following in June 2024. The first long documentary by photographer and film maker Anton Corbijn tells the story about Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey ”Po” Powell, the creative geniuses behind the design studio Hipgnosis.
Hipgnosis was established at the end of the sixties in Cambridge and became a staple in the seventies. Thorgerson and Powell were responsible for a few of the most recognisable album covers ever. During this period, it weren’t the labels to tell acts such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney how their sleeves should look like - Storm and Po did that. Their iconic album covers left a remarkable influence on pop culture in the seventies.
The film contains interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Noel Gallagher and many more.

’From the country side of Northern Holland, spawned a dirty, hard-rocking trio. Three musicians with long lasting scars that is their inspiration. lnspired by real no-nonsense music styles, fate had it that these three would get together and discuss their destiny. Hard-rock with a stroke of blues and a gritty hand-kiss from the dirty sheets of pop music. When on the look out for timeless festival-stamping music. Westone is what you’re looking for’
GreyNomad takes you on a spherical journey in life’s quest. A musical path, that is, about daily insecurities, doubts, love, hope and acceptance. The band’s sound is atmospheric with a touch of melancholy, but at the same time it is very accessible and therefore a quirky everyone’s friend with a dark edge. After a number of band changes, the band is at full strength and has been provided with an extra dose of dynamics, both in the old and the new work.
No worries. The Golden Earring will no longer appear on stages. But 45 Miles is here to provide some much-needed comfort. The Golden Earring is deep in the DNA of Dutch rock music. Put on a song by the Earring and you sing along or play air guitar. What started as a snack for 45 Miles eventually became a permanent band. Because what could be more fun than throwing out all those bangers from the 4 Hague rockers with the four of you?
45 Miles started as a one-off project at the end of 2018. Back then it was Berry & Friends. Only 3 years later did the band become established. The Rock & Roll machine is now at full steam and is touring throughout Brabant and ready for the rest of the country. All members have years of experience in various pop and rock bands and have spent many hours on stage.
