Ciao Lucifer gets plenty done with two musicians
Two players can cover a surprising amount of ground. In Ciao Lucifer, a modified ten-string guitar takes care of the low end as well. The Amsterdam duo has found its own practical answer to the missing bass player.
Marnix Dorrestein and Willem Wits have played together since their school days. Their indie pop puts danceable rhythms alongside melodies that stay with you, using the close understanding that comes from making music together for years.
Released on 25 September 2026, Sunset Riders gives that approach a studio setting. The album was recorded in three days with producer Simon Akkermans. Drums, guitar and vocals were captured together, with much of the record made up of first takes. The method keeps the musicians’ interaction audible in the finished recording.
At the Record Planet Music Zone, Jan Douwe Kroeske meets the duo for a conversation before a short live performance. How does a two-piece think about space in a song? What makes an early take worth keeping? There is plenty in their way of working to interest visitors who spend time listening to how records are made.
Find Ciao Lucifer on the Hall 7 stage during the 63rd Mega Record & CD Fair at the Brabanthallen, on 14 and 15 November 2026. You can spend the rest of the day finding records by artists you already love. Leave a little time to hear a duo you may be meeting for the first time.
