The session ends but the listening carries on
A familiar song can reveal something new when a band plays it in the studio. A different arrangement changes its weight. A voice sounds closer. Since 1987, 2 Meter Sessions has been recording performances worth returning to.
Created by Jan Douwe Kroeske, the Dutch music programme has built an archive of international and homegrown artists. Its recordings continue to reach listeners through video and vinyl. At the 63rd Mega Record & CD Fair, that archive sits alongside conversations and performances happening in the room.
In the Hall 7 Music Zone, Kroeske interviews Erwin Nyhoff of The Prodigal Sons, The Scene, Bob Theil and Ciao Lucifer before each guest gives a short live performance. Screenings introduce earlier 2 Meter Sessions recordings, allowing you to move between past studio appearances and the musicians visiting this edition.
The Charly Record Store is the place to explore the vinyl series. Look for The Scene’s ten recordings from the 1990s and the six-song session The Prodigal Sons recorded in 1993. The wider selection includes Bettie Serveert, Damien Jurado, K’s Choice and The Jayhawks, alongside an early release of Ben Caplan’s new session album.
There is a particular pleasure in taking a record home after hearing someone talk about the music behind it. The sleeve now comes with a conversation you were there for. Join 2 Meter Sessions at the Brabanthallen on 14 and 15 November 2026 and find a recording to spend more time with.
