The World’s Greatest Vinyl Show

About Us – Record Planet: Celebrating Music Culture Since 1992

Record Planet is more than an event organiser, it is the beating heart of a global vinyl community. Founded by a group of passionate friends from the Dutch town of Hoorn in the early 1980s, our story began with a shared obsession: music. Playing it, collecting it, and living it. Inspired by frequent travels to London and immersed in British record culture, these friends brought the spirit of crate-digging home.

From early fairs at iconic Amsterdam venues like Krasnapolsky, Artis and the Jaap Edenhal, the love for vinyl grew into something much bigger: a movement. That love gave birth to Dropstyle, a record store in the centre of Hoorn that became a local vinyl haven. In the 1990s, the fair found its new home at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Since then, Record Planet’s flagship event, the Mega Record & CD Fair, has blossomed into the largest and most influential record fair in the world: a true international phenomenon.

“The world’s biggest – and, by all accounts, best – record collectors’ fair.”
Record Collector Magazine (2019)

A little promise to all the vinyl  lovers, collectors and diggers

At Record Planet, we promise to serve the rebels, the romantics, the collectors, the audiophiles, the crate diggers, and the seekers of black gold. Vinyl is not just music. It is ritual, memory, connection: a tangible story pressed into wax.

We believe every record has a soul and deserves to be seen, touched, heard, loved, and passed on. We are here to protect, promote and pass on this culture. Not as a trend, but as a timeless art form. We are its biggest ambassadors, building bridges between generations and continents.

Record Planet. The greatest vinyl show on earth.

“An eye- and ear-opening experience… an electrifying experience for the first-timer.”

Why We Matter: Global, Passionate, Unique

Twice a year, over 30,000 music lovers from across the globe converge on Den Bosch (NL). 550 stalls, 16,600 m² of musical treasures. From South Africa to Japan, Brazil to South Korea, including the USA dealers and visitors bring rare vinyl, stories, and soul. This is the place to find that one record you’ve searched for your entire life. Exhibitions, book presentations, DJ sets, live performances: the Mega Record & CD Fair is a sanctuary for those who believe music is more than sound.

“If there’s a record you’re looking for, chances are it’s here.”

“People come here to socialise. Everybody knows different things and they swap expertise at the bar. You can have a Madonna fan standing next to a hip-hop fan and there’s still an exchange of views about music.”
Cas Bosland, in Record Collector Magazine

In Search of the Holy Grail

Some travel fair to fair, country to country, in pursuit of a single album. At our fair, it’s not just about collecting, it’s about discovering. Each crate is a portal, each groove a memory. And when you finally find that long-lost gem? You hear the crackle, the music breathes again  and you remember why vinyl is eternal.

Same Passion, Different Taste

What makes the Mega Record & CD Fair so extraordinary is the diversity of the people it brings together. From seasoned collectors searching for obscure first pressings, to curious newcomers discovering vinyl for the very first time, everyone walks through the same doors with the same passion, even if their musical tastes couldn’t be more different.

You’ll find crate diggers in leather jackets shoulder to shoulder with jazz heads in cardigans, teenaged punk collectors chatting with reggae enthusiasts in their sixties. From Berlin to Cape Town, from Tokyo to Hoorn, it’s a gathering of unique stories, cultures, and musical histories.

It’s this mixture of generations, nationalities, and tastes that makes the fair feel more like a festival of community than a marketplace. People meet, connect, talk music, exchange stories, and discover unexpected sounds.

Behind every record lies a personal memory. Behind every song, a journey. Some visitors are drawn to the deep crackle of 70s soul, others to the raw energy of underground techno, and some are just hoping to stumble upon a childhood soundtrack they thought was lost forever.
We’ve also proudly nurtured a new generation of vinyl lovers. For years, we’ve offered free admission to kids under 16 when accompanied by an adult, helping parents pass their love for vinyl to the next generation. Today, more and more young people find their way to the fair, and our efforts to keep vinyl culture vibrant and inclusive have been featured in international media such as the Swiss television documentary from Spring 2025.

At Record Planet, we believe vinyl connects people. Across borders, across generations, across genres.

“It’s not just about the records you find — it’s about the people you meet while searching.”

“It’s a community, at the end of the day.”
Doug Shipton, Finders Keepers, in Record Collector Magazine
